We Make Stuff.
For You. For Your Brand. For Ourselves.

World class brands and lo-fi bands, entrepreneurs and raconteurs, cultural institutions and craftsmen alike work with us because of our inventive thinking, our classic design sense, our abundance of facial hair, and our honest approach to the business of image making.

About Us

We’re a principal-driven studio. That means you work directly with us and that’s the way we like it. We’ve stockpiled plenty of awards on our shelves and tricks up our sleeves and we’ve done so by handling all of the ins and outs of projects big and small. There is nothing like the adrenaline rush of rolling out a large campaign, the satisfaction of bringing a storyteller's vision to life, and the creative intimacy of a passion project. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

The long and the short of it is that we’re our happiest when we’re doing a lot of different things. What began as a mutual love of poster art has led to a satisfying blend of design and illustration and entrepreneurship. Call our toll free number today to discuss your brand project, ad campaign, book cover, magazine commission, album art, birthday party and bar mitzvah. Balloon art and beard sculpture are billed separately.

For over 10 years, Jason Kernevich and Dustin Summers have been working together as The Heads of State. They’ve created award winning posters, book covers, branding, and illustration for a diverse and impressive list of clients. In 2012, they launched Pilot and Captain, a design venture focused on creating t-shirts, posters, and products inspired by the golden age of travel. They lecture frequently about their work and process and teach graphic design and illustration at Tyler School of Art where they both studied.

Jason Kernevich

Principal & Creative Director

Jason is always thinking. About projects, ideas, songs, recipes. He'd rather be fishing, but he'll settle for listening to baseball on the radio and reading the newspaper in a bar.

Dusty Summers

Principal & Creative Director

Dusty likes non-fiction, single speeds, western epics, 3-4 defenses and Levon Helm. He's never heard of Gillette, and doesn't care much for wine. He lives in South Philly with his wife and two sons.

Woody Harrington

Graphic Designer

Woody is a warehouse dweller with an affinity for garage rock and basement shows. He rides single fins and seven plies, and always prefers paperbacks. Proudly color blind, his favorite swatch is PMS 192 C.
